and Historic Byway Mountain Branch |

We seek to achieve a balance between preservation and development. We strive to increase public knowledge about the locations of archaeological and historic resources along the route. We encourage protection of sites on private land through voluntary mechanisms, incentives and certification programs.
We increase information availability about travel in both directions along the Trail's historic routes and the ties it created among the vastly different cultures and races. We strive to preserve the pioneer spirit among the region's population. We also enhance awareness of the Trail's history among persons moving into the region. We promote Trail-related activities among all ages and families and we use connections provided by the Trail to improve inter-community relations.
We develop additional sites which are not now accessible or do not have visitor services. Our objectives are to improve the quality of visits and to increase the number of sites visited.
We consistently use a unified Trail-related theme and identity. We seek to increase visitation approximately 5% per year. We also seek to increase the length of visitor stays and expenditures. It is our goal to increase visitation to under-utilized sites and facilities as well as provide services and facilities to attract groups. Last but not least, we disperse Trail-related activities throughout the corridor of the Santa Fe Trail Mountain Branch.
